Day 1, Welcome to Iceland, Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik!

Our car service will pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the nearby Blue Lagoon spa. Soak in the warm healing waters before continuing to your boutique hotel in Reykjavik. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and exploring on your own with recommendations from us.

 

Day 2, Kayaking Adventure and Lava Tube Spelunking

Today, your private guide will pick you up at 9AM. Head to the south coast for a varied kayaking adventure in fresh water and along the coast where there are numerous skerries favoured by birds and seals. Have lunch at a cozy country restaurant famous for its langoustine lobster. On the way back to Reykjavik, stop to explore a magnificent lava tunnel, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. A journey into the tunnel is a unique experience and a great opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption as one walks in the path of lava that flowed about 5.200 years ago.

Day 3, Blue Glacier Hiking, Black Sand Beaches and Cascading Waterfalls

Today, we leave Reykjavik for four nights in the countryside. We drive along the south coast of Iceland, taking in some of its most dramatic scenery, exploring waterfalls and black-sand beaches along the way. We head to Solheimajokull glacier which extends from the great Myrdalsjökull glacier, down to the sandy plains of the Icelandic south coast. The spectacular surroundings are marked by rugged and majestic rock formations thoroughly shaped by the glacier. Embark on a private glacier walk on crampons up onto the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses await your discovery.

 

Day 4, Wilderness ATV and Secret BBQ

After fueling up on breakfast, go on a fun-filled, exclusive ATV tour into a beautiful hidden valley. It´s an area that was inhabited by outlaws in the old days and offers a variety of scenery and terrain including rivers, waterfalls, caves, forest and magnificent views. We will stop for a surprise BBQ lunch is a secret spot. After lunch, travel to the north side of Eyjafjallajokull volcano, an otherwordly area of snow-white glaciers, steely-blue glacial rivers, dramatic canyons and hidden waterfalls.

 

Day 5, Island RIB Safari and Puffins

Start the day with a short ferry ride to the Westman Islands just off the south coast of Iceland. The Westman Islands were the site of a massive volcanic eruption in 1973 that buried almost a third of the town under lava and the rest under ash and pumice. It has since recovered and is now one of Iceland’s most successful fishing ports. Here you will experience something unique. We will go on an exciting RIB safari tour around the islands and bounce on the waves while checking out the archipelago’s nature, wildlife and sea caves. Before returning to the mainland hike Mt Eldfell (Fire Mountain), the mountain born in the 1973 eruption and explore the area where the lava flowed and buried many of the houses on the island. Today this area is part of a fascinating exhibit. Return to the mainland in the late afternoon.

 

Day 6, Highland Hiking in Landmannalaugar

This morning, we pack a picnic lunch and head into the highland nature reserve of Landmannalaugar, one of Iceland´s most beautiful areas. Landmannlaugar features the largest geothermal field in Iceland and the area derives its magnificence and diverse nature from Iceland’s active volcanic zone. Landmannalaugar´s spectacular landscape features stupendous ravines, steep rhyolite screes, rocky slopes, mountains with boiling hot springs, cold and clear springs, lush valleys with delicate wildflowers, light-coloured alluvial plains and sculptural peaks sporting all the colors of the rainbow. After an approximate 2-3 hour jeep safari in this amazing back country you will arrive at an area perfect for hiking. After your hike, you can choose to relax and soak in a natural hot pool formed by a mixture of hot and cold water streaming in from the edge of Laugahraun lava field.

Day 7, Golden Circle and Viking Horses

Today we visit Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the location of Iceland´s Parliament between the years 930 and 1798. Thingvellir is also one of the few places in the world where you can see the effects of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pulling apart, clearly visible in Almannagja or Everyman’s Gorge. After lunch, we explore the erupting hot springs area Geysir, the place giving its name to the phenomenon worldwide. From here, a 10-minute drive takes us to Gullfoss, or Golden Falls, Iceland’s most famous waterfall. On our way back to Reykjavik we visit a family-run ranch for an introduction to the beautiful Icelandic horse. This unique breed was brought to the islands by the Viking settlers. Today, it is renowned for its fifth gait, the smooth Tolt. Go on a private riding tour with views of surrounding volcanoes and mountain ranges. Arrive in Reykjavik around dinner time.
